At HITsa, we believe that every individual should be able to access quality training and development opportunities.
We have committed HITsa Charitable Fund, the rebranded Booze Brothers Staff Charitable Fund, to be our vehicle that drives this endeavour.
This month we were delighted to connect with four amazing South Australian charities who we have selected to be the recipients of 2023 HITsa Charitable Fund donations.
Seeds of Affinity - Pathways for Women
A not-for profit volunteer run community group established by and for women with lived prison experience.
It was founded in 2006 by Linda Fisk and her ex-parole officer Anna Kemp to address the gaps in the services provided to women in prison and particularly upon release.
The women meet each Tuesday and Friday where they prepare a shared lunch and work on saleable products. The social enterprise funds the group’s work, creating screen printed tea towels, tote bags, soap and other toiletries.
The Group also supports the women in prison through advocacy work. In the hope that building relationships will empower women to reach out to Seeds of Affinity upon release to ease the feelings of loneliness and isolation we all experience when trying to change our lives.
Seeds also conducts a lot of lobbying and meetings with the Government to improve conditions for women in prison.
Circle of Friends Australia [Jobs Café Initiative] - Local community groups who support asylum seekers and refugees living in the community, or visit those in detention. Circle of Friends welcome and assist asylum seekers and refugees with the difficult process of establishing themselves in Australia, or with the challenges of detention and the asylum application process.
“The “Jobs Café” initiative facilitates individuals in their search for employment. There is no physical café. The initiative involves the meeting and mentoring of individuals and evolved as a response to the significant number of people who are demoralised by constant rejection in their efforts to secure work....and the recognition that in our community the establishment and maintenance of a person’s dignity is tied to being employed.
Gold Foundation - Providing support for young people on the Autism Spectrum and their families and now approaching its 15th year of operations.
Gold Foundation operates Australia’s-first ‘Shine Like Gold!’ Mobile Café social innovation project to provide supported employment to young autistic superheroes.
Through its supported employment environment, the ‘Shine Like Gold!’ Mobile Café is helping young autistic people achieve greatly improved social and communication skills, improved psychological wellbeing, social and community inclusion, improved family life, and greater opportunities for the future.
Kickstart for Kids is a South Australian Children’s Charity founded on the belief that every child, regardless of their social or economic background, should have an equal chance to succeed. Kickstart for Kids facilitates this belief by running school breakfast and lunch programs, mentoring programs and providing basic clothing and healthcare support in South Australian schools.
Future Pathways is a mentoring program created to continue empowering and supporting disadvantaged children. Students participate in a variety of learning-based activities paired with specific education/social skills outcomes. Each activity connects different qualities and attributes to real-life scenarios, and strengthens participants’ teamwork and problem-solving skills, pushing them out of their comfort zones and developing resilience, perseverance, and knowledge in different settings.
Opening month @ Mount Barker
HITsa held it's official Open Day last month where Mount Barker and Regional representatives of local employment providers, council, local schools alliance, employers as well as representatives of the offices for Rebekha Sharkie MP and Dan Cregan MP were welcomed to the new Mount Barker campus.
Guests on the day took the opportunity to network over lunch and a barista made coffee, courtesy of our industry standard espresso coffee machines, followed by a tour of the kitted out training facility. Thank you to all who attended and HITsa is excited to continue to meet industry training needs.

Certificate III | Individual Support NOW @ Mount Barker
HITsa is excited to be launching Certificate III in Individual Support at it's Mount Barker campus.

HITsa in conjunction with Workforce Australia ran an entry level retail skills program funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
The project consisted of two training programs that ran in May and June. These were the first courses to be delivered at HITsa's new Mount Barker site.
Each course ran for 3 weeks. Attendance was exemplary and all participants successfully completed the program. The students all expressed that the skills they learnt will assist with their employment prospects.
In addition to gaining employment skills, participants also addressed personal barriers through their involvement. Participation provided experience with routine and purpose through the commitment of attending classes each day, building personal confidence through interactions with new people and active participation in group activities and a sense of achievement by seeing a task through from start to finish with a successful result.

PRE EMPLOYMENT
Hospitality SYC Superstars
HITsa successfully ran a 2 week Hospitality Pre-Employment program in June in partnership with SYC at the HITsa Clarence Gardens training site. All participants successfully completed the program to support them into industry employment.
Over the course of 2 weeks, the students were equipped with a variety of accredited units of training such as Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol, Basic Gaming, Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety as well as non-accredited practical skills training in Food and Beverage service and introduction to Espresso Coffee training.
We look forward to watching the participants journey into industry employment, progress as a result of this program.

Home Support Pre-Employment Program @ Victor Harbour
HITsa has continued it's commitment to deliver in the regional SA, partnering with Apprenticeship Careers Australia for a Home Support Pre-Employment Program during June.
This short program was tailored to provide job ready skills for industry needs and included training in Safe Work Practices, First Aid, Infection Control, Manual Handling and Personal Care.
10 students participated in the program, reporting "they all thoroughly enjoyed the program and thought HITsa trainers were brilliant and very happy with the formal training and venue". We look forward to hearing about their transition into personal care traineeships.

Introducing Business Manager, Jodie
Jodie has commenced at HITsa to support and develop our retail training. She has extensive experience in customer service, having managed a self storage business, Store Ur Stuff, for the past 11 years.
Actually, Jodie didn’t have to travel far for her new HITsa opportunity – HITsa and Store Ur Stuff are co-located at Clarence Gardens!
Jodie has hit the ground running at HITsa, completing the co-ordination of two successful Local Jobs Program activities – Go Hospo! and Retail Immersion. Now Jodie’s focus is to manage and grow HITsa’s retail training.
“Up until recently, Marc Paxton has facilitated much of HITsa’s retail training. He recently stepped away from training to take on his own new business venture. I am excited for the opportunity to be HITsa’s Retail Training Business Manager. I am looking forward to connecting with businesses and working for the success of both the trainee and business” Jodie said.

Are you ready for the deadline?
SA Businesses are required to designate a Food Safety Supervisor to comply with standards.
HITsa has created two course offerings to meet these standards (depending on your requirements) with:
Food Safety Supervision Skill Set SITSS00069
combining 'Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety SITXFSA005' & 'Participate in Safe Food Handling Practices SITXFSA006'.
This skill set is for food handling personnel or food safety supervisors working in tourism, hospitality and catering organisations with permanent or temporary kitchen premises, and smaller food preparation or bar areas. Food businesses have a legal responsibility to make sure food handlers have food safety skills and knowledge in food safety and hygiene line with the work they do.
Under Standard 3.2.2A, businesses who handle unpackaged potentially hazardous foods, and sell or serve them as ready to eat food must appoint a Food Safety Supervisor. This may include restaurants and takeaways, caterers, food vans, child care centres, deli’s who slice meats and serve salads, and service stations selling pies and hot dogs.
This training provides you with the nationally recognised unit required in your role as a Food Safety supervisor.
