Chef David says "See you in the New Year..."
as Cookery classes sign out for 2023
This week mark's the end of Semester Two for Cookery and the close of the kitchen for 2023.
What a way to finish - a desserts block show-casing parfait, sorbet, crepes, apple pie and fruit flans, to name a few...
Make sure you play the video of the chocolate fondant - it is perfection! How is this done? By clicking on the image to the right.
You can't help but be impressed by the amazing desserts shown in the photos below. Each one created by one of the apprentices currently studying under Chef David.
Chef David will be kicking off his fitness class to shed the extra kilos due to the hardship of sampling the amazing creations from the apprentices during this block of study.

OUT & ABOUT
Salisbury Business Association Employment, Education & Training Expo
In September, the Salisbury Business Association hosted their Employment, Education and Training Expo. HITsa was invited to host a stall and be part of this exciting community event.
The expo connected employment service providers, training organisations, employers and skill development experts all in the one location.
Held at the Salisbury Community Hub with 23 exhibitors, this placed people in attendance face to face with many opportunities to explore their career prospects. Buzzing with so many people with various backgrounds, we met with year 12 students from Indie school who are investigating the next step after secondary education, people looking for a different career path and those that are just looking at some additional skills that compliment their industry.
It was a successful afternoon connecting and networking and a big thank you to the Salisbury Business Association and Salisbury Community Hub for looking after us.
Meeting the Team from MAS
HITsa had the pleasure of hosting the MAS National team at Clarence Gardens last month.
The team from MAS were taken on a tour of our training site, getting to see first hand the Skill Centre and Training Rooms equipped for delivering industry specific training.
We discussed insights into exciting initiatives and projects in the pipeline and our ongoing collaboration to continue to support positive outcomes for industry in Clarence Gardens, Mount Barker and Salisbury.
A big thank you to the MAS National team for taking the morning out to meet with us and see what HITsa has to offer.
TALKING TRAINING
Work Placement Testimony
CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support [Disability]
A must read recent testimony from one of HITsa's students about their experience in the workplace:
"I was very skeptical initially and excited about my work placement as this is completely a new industry for me and I am in the transition phase into a new career.
My placement was at 'Empowering Futures'. I found that management were very approachable for any discussion and feedback and the team of support workers that I worked with very friendly and helpful in getting the queries answered and helping in the application of skills in real life.
Every client is different and working with them with the help of support workers and shadowing them is a totally awesome experience. Every participant that I worked with had different needs to support, with various behavioural concerns. The team has taught me various strategies that I can follow during these situations as part of my Duty of Care. The scheduled programs for the participants were very inclusive and interactive in unleashing the potential of the participants subscribing to the principles of the organisation - Voice, Choice and Control with the true meaning of "Empowering Futures".
The management and the team were very supportive in every aspect of my learning including during work placement hours where I acquired new to me practical skills, based on the knowledge that I acquired from the classroom and training sessions from HITsa. I am more than happy to share that I was offered a job immediately after my placements and I am very excited to join and start my new career.
Thank you HITsa Training and Employment!"

Skills Days for Health Students
Whilst studying HITsa's health courses as either a short course or qualification, students are provided with Practical Skills Days in order to help develop skills required to support a large range of people.
Whether it's supporting people living with a disability or the elderly, training prepares students to assist them with daily activities, helping clients to develop greater levels of independence and to support people to access their community - which is so vital in human nature; to feel a sense of belonging.
Skills days provide students with the opportunity to be shown how to use various equipment and receive guidance and support from qualified trainers who have worked in industry.
Be a step ahead of the rest when beginning a work placement and/or upskilling for the next step in your career!
Meet the Trainer
Meet Marie, Health Trainer
Where were you born? I was born in New Zealand. I have lived, worked and studied in Australia since 1993.
Tell us about your work history: I commenced with HITsa in July 2023. Prior to this, I have experience as a Community Support Worker and Assistant in Nursing.
Prior to my career in health, I acquired a Diploma in Business Management and additional studies studies in Beauty Therapy, Nursing and Individual Support.
For a number of years I did media make up, then I owned a beauty retail business for 5 years specialising in natural make up and skincare products and beauty/massage services.
Tell us about your family: I am a single parent to 7 children, 1 of my children passed away in 1997 due to Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
My children are now adults and I have eight young grandchildren. I am a carer for my 11-year-old nephew who lives with me and my fur babies; a dog and a cat. My adult children have all successfully acquired qualifications as adult learners working in industries such as nursing, plumbing and community services.
What do you find is the most rewarding thing about training? Helping students reach their goals on a daily basis and passing on the knowledge and experiences I have acquired over time.
I value care and the responsibility I have as a a trainer to be able to influence and encourage others. I am excited about the difference I can make in a students life daily. I love this job!
What is the most challenging thing about training? I love a challenge, but not the technology type - like when a Powerpoint won't work as I would like it to!

DID YOU KNOW?
How are students assessed?
Competency-based assessment involves collecting evidence and making judgements about whether a student has achieved competency. These judgements will be made by qualified trainers and assessors.
Assessment involves two parts – knowledge and performance:
- Knowledge will be assessed using a set of theory questions
- Performance will be assessed using simulated demonstrations
