Cookery Apprentices whip up a storm in the kitchen
Some of HITsa's Admin and Management teams were very fortunate to be invited to the Edwardstown commercial kitchen to sample a few dishes being created by the apprentice cooks who are into week two of prepare meat dishes.
They enjoyed perfectly cooked steak which was adorned with Café de Paris (herbed butter for steak). Included here is the recipe for the butter as it takes steak to a whole new level..... and with summer coming its perfect BBQ weather.
Café de Paris
- 100g butter, at room temperature
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 2 drained anchovy fillets, finely chopped
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp baby capers, rinsed, drained
- 1 tbs chopped fresh chives
- 1 tbs chopped fresh continental parsley
The star dish of the day was the much anticipated Baby Cabrito (Goat) Stew which was tender and rich in flavour.
It was a great opportunity to break bread with the Apprentices and Chef David, their trainer, to enjoy a great meal and relaxed chat about their training and workplaces.
PRE EMPLOYMENT
Job Opportunities @ Adelaide Oval
HITsa was excited to partner with Adelaide Oval and Workskil Australia in September to deliver a 2 week hospitality pre-employment program.
This program saw 30 participants training across our Clarence Gardens and Salisbury sites as they prepared for employment.
Training 'kicked off' with a recruitment session at Adelaide Oval with a picturesque backdrop (stunning pic taken by HITsa's Business Manager Jake).
Successful candidates (pictured below) gained skills in hospitality training with units Introduction to Coffee, Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol and other practical skills to prepare them for potential employment.

HITsa Finalist in Business Awards
Salisbury City Centre Business Awards
HITsa Team members Gemma and Sarah attended the Salisbury City Centre Business Awards on Wednesday 30 August as a finalist for the TRAINING & EMPLOYMENT AWARD.
Unfortunately we missed out on winning the category but we congratulate local disability support organisation MOBO on taking out the prize - a wonderful local business providing employment and related supports. Perhaps it might be 3rd time lucky for HITSA in 2024 .....

Student Testimony
"I am a year twelve student from Thomas More College who undertook the opportunity to become a VETRO student with HITsa Training and Employment.
I completed this training online, whilst still studying at school and attended the Salisbury campus once a fortnight.
HITsa worked with my school schedule and timetable allowing me to excel in my education. Whilst in class at HITsa I got to experience in an adult learning environment and was provided all the resources and guidance needed from the trainers.
HITsa sourced a work placement that worked with my school schedule and checked in weekly via phone to ensure I was getting the support I needed. A trainer also came to the site for a visit to ensure I understood how the work placement logbook was to be completed and to discuss my placement experience.
The experiences I gained from HITsa and work placement component of the course were very valuable. Not only will I gain a certification, my confidence and belief in my abilities were heightened. I am now excited to join the work force and make a difference to those living with a disability within our communities."

Practical Skills Training in Health
Manual Handling (non-accredited)
Why do HITsa's Individual Support students undertake Manual Handling?
Manual Handling is an important part of everyday life and working as a support worker it becomes even more important as you are not just making sure you are safe when performing manual handling tasks, but also the safety of the person you are caring for and your co-workers.
This unit gives students the skills to safely undertake manual handling tasks, which reduces the risk of injury to themselves and others.
Manual handling is practiced in a lot of tasks we undertake throughout the day, whether it be lifting a box of paper or assisting a person to stand up or assisting putting someone in a sling lifter.
Here are some photos of students at a recent practical training day using the lifting equipment at Clarence Gardens.

Skills Centre Mount Barker
Students recently donned their gowns and completed one of their first days in the skills centre at the new Mount Barker campus. Practical days of training are held in the skills centre where students train in tasks needed to become a support worker. These tasks are taught in aid of supporting people in their daily living skills.
The students created some fun in class when practicing grooming and hygiene skills. One of the tasks teaches how to shave another person. For this, students use a mannequin head and balloons. The balloons are used to show you have to be gentle whilst shaving someone - one wrong move and the balloon will pop!
Other tasks the students worked on were using a wheelchair and showering another person, in both the carer role and as a person they will support.
Here are some photos of the students in training at a recent class at Mount Barker

DID YOU KNOW?
What is competency-based training?
As a student, when you enrol into nationally recognised training with HITsa, you will be undertaking competency-based training. This method of training focuses on your ability to receive, respond to and process information.
Each unit of training will provide you with knowledge and skills as outlined within the unit of competency. Your trainers will guide and support you to consistently apply the knowledge and skills within our simulated training environments to a standard that is required in the workplace.
