Learning Practical Skills for Individual Support – KW

CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support

Skills Centre Mount Barker

Students recently donned their gowns and completed one of their first days in the skills centre at the new Mount Barker campus. Practical days of training are held in the skills centre where students train in tasks needed to become a support worker. These tasks are taught in aid of supporting people in their daily living skills.

The students created some fun in class when practicing grooming and hygiene skills. One of the tasks teaches how to shave another person. For this, students use a mannequin head and balloons. The balloons are used to show you have to be gentle whilst shaving someone – one wrong move and the balloon will pop!

Other tasks the students worked on were using a wheelchair and showering another person, in both the carer role and as a person they will support.
